In the early 2000s, Vallicelli’s sculptural touch returned to design a hull for Comar. This led to the creation of the Comet 51, a finely crafted cruiser-racer, which the shipyard soon also released in a ‘sport’ version, the S. The hull is elegant and slender, featuring a fractional sail plan with a triple-spreader swept-back mast. The deck is understated and clean, boasting a large cockpit equipped with twin steering wheels. The hull design doesn’t strictly follow IMS formulas, instead coming to life with a streamlined longitudinal profile and rounded aft cross-sections—a characteristic inherited from the iconic Virtuelle of 2000. From an aesthetic standpoint, it represents a highly successful experiment with minimalist lines, an extremely low and harmonious coachroof, and a stunning open transom with an almost sculptural stern; a combination so successful it defined the Comar line for years to come.
