How and Why to Join the Classic Boats Club by GdV

Everyone can join the Classic Boat Club!

There are two options:

  • You can join personally, becoming a “Crew Member”;
  • You can join as an “Owner Member”, thus becoming owner members.
    This option is reserved for owners of a boat that meets the Classic Boat or Youngtimer parameters.
    As a reminder: a Classic Boat is a boat at least 25 years old from the date of its first launch starting from 1967; a Youngtimer is a boat between 15 and 25 years old.
    This second option guarantees the right to register your vessel in the respective “Official Register”, whether it relates to “Classic Boats of Historical Value” by GdV or to “Youngtimers”.

Find all the details and benefits of each membership below!

Owner Member

Reserved for all passionate owners of a Classic Boat or a Youngtimer (the latter, starting from August 17, 2026).

Any sailing vessel of any size that falls into the following categories can be registered:

Classic Boat: boats at least 25 years old from the launch date of the first model in the series starting from 1967. They are the foundations of sailing, the key to its great opening to the public.

Youngtimer: boats between 15 and 25 years old. A class of timeless boats populated by exceptional hulls, a natural bridge between the glories of the past (IOR-IMS) and the influences of contemporary regulations (ORC-IRC).

Essential requirements for registering the boat in the Register:
The boat must respect the age parameters and must NOT have been modified to such an extent that the original design is distorted. However, certain modifications aimed at improving the design and/or guaranteeing/improving the safety of the boat and the people on board are accepted.

How to join:
Registering your boat with the Classic Boat Club by GdV is simple.
Just fill out the form and upload photos, all online. Within 15 days of submitting the required material, the Evaluation Committee will provide its opinion.
