Golondrina (Ex Ojalà)

Golondrina was born as Ojalà, commissioned by Charles Holland, an Englishman transplanted to Argentina who moved to Italy after World War II, having served here with the British Special Operations Executive and in the Canadian Devil’s Brigade.

Design No. 1922 by Sparkman Stephens, Golondrina is a classic example of a late ’60s RORC One-Tonner, a precursor, among other things, to the adoption of a rudder separate from the keel, following the already incredible Roundabout and Clarionet (UK). It was built in mahogany by the Carlini Shipyards in Rimini, then the Mediterranean reference for the New York studio in terms of quality. A good demonstration of the Carlini / S partnership would come from race placements: twice Mediterranean One Ton Champion (1970, 1971) and first place in the 1971 Giraglia.

In 1973, given the great evolution in design and the advent of the first IOR, Holland then commissioned Ojalà II, a more current hull in aluminum, designating Ojalà for cruising and, later, for sale.

Under new ownership, in the ’90s Golondrina would return to racing, demonstrating once again, in its class, all its value (Palmares below). Today, for sale, it would be an excellent hull in the newly rediscovered RORC and IOR classes that populate the Mediterranean. However, it needs a refit, as the last one dates back to 2018.
