Launched in 1976 by the Carpenteria Navale Apollonio of Petronio and Pecarich (Trieste) based on a design by Ron Holland, Histria is a prototype Two Tonner, a second class IOR consisting of four layers of mahogany planking crossed at 45° on a frame of laminated wood ribs and floor timbers.
Commissioned by engineer Giulio Viezzoli –who was its owner from 1976 to 1983– the design immediately achieved excellent results throughout Italy, particularly in the Settimana delle Bocche ’78 and the Barcolana ’76, where it placed third overall. It also participated in the selections for the Admiral’s Cup in 1979.
From 1983 to 1993, it passed into the ownership of Mariotti, who transferred it from Ancona to Pescara. Since 1993, it has been the boat of the Del Barone family, who used it in IMS races in the ’90s, and who have restored it to its former glory, returning it to the clean original lines and brilliant red sides.
