S3PITOSA – Selection 37
From Jeanneau, a fiberglass racing model appreciated by cruisers and featuring an original double hatchway. Designed to replace the Rush in the 1984 Tour de France à la Voile, the Selection 37 was an immediate success, with Jeanneau building 251 units until 1991, up from the initially planned 50. Sélection doesn’t go unnoticed, and rightly so. Fine water entries, wide and flat stern, great waterline length for a displacement under 3.5 tons: this is the cocktail prepared by the two La Rochelle architects Joubert and Nivelt, who drew inspiration from the DIVA’s waterlines to create this racing one-design.
A fast boat, especially downwind, with a generous sail plan and equipped with running backstays, optimized for racing, the deck is characterized by a double access to the interior. From the cockpit hatchway, you enter a cabin with 4 berths, from the deck hatch you access the saloon, galley, and bathroom, and in the bow there’s another V-shaped cabin. A truly explosive cocktail, especially considering the fantastic sail plan.
Sail control is easy thanks to high-performance equipment. The deck layout is original, with two companionways allowing for easy circulation both in port and offshore. No rope clutch is missing, all halyards are differentiated and within reach of the helmsman and crew in the cockpit. The winches are arranged aft. Maneuvers are carried out safely, and the crew grouped in the same area favors unforgettable surfing, the secret of the Sélection. The balance of the hull is surprising, and the helmsman, seated in the cockpit or on the side deck, controls the Sélection with just a touch of the tiller. Forward visibility is excellent, allowing you to focus on finding speed. As soon as you ease the sheet to attack a reach or run, the Sélection leaps forward. The game then consists of threading the bow into the trough of the waves, which propel the Sélection in exciting planing and can make it flirt with 17 knots.
A boat of the Tour de France à la Voile for several years, the Sélection exists in 2 versions: Royale Tour de France or owner’s version. It offers a true coachroof and a wide hull, thus providing accommodation for 7 adults. The saloon (1.80 m headroom) is the area that best accommodates the crew. In the center, the table (owner’s version) will allow the entire crew to gather. Wood is very present. The aft cabin has its own companionway. Depending on the version, different layouts are offered: 4 bunk beds in the Royale Tour de France à la Voile version. 1 double berth and two bunk beds in the owner’s version. In both cases, there is no lack of furnishings and volumes remain considerable. The central passageway gives access to the bathroom and the helm station. The galley has various compartments and cabinets. The general layout that utilizes the full width of the Sélection makes life on board very pleasant.
Our boat is the Royal Tour de France version and has participated in several editions of the Tour de France
